How Leslie Went From Insulin Resistant And Exhausted To Insulin Sensitive In 6 Months

This is how our client went from insulin resistant, fatigued, and brain fogged to insulin sensitive, energized, and clear headed in just six months!

This is essential if you want to reduce insulin resistance, stabilize blood sugar, and get rid of symptoms like fatigue and brain fog without cutting out carbs.

How me and my team Help People Reduce Insulin Resistance naturally while eating carbs

If you are new here and we have not quite connected yet, my name is Isaac Pohlman.

I’m a registered dietitian and a fellow person with type 1 diabetes.

At The Pohlman Institute, we help our clients improve their blood sugar for good. We do that by digging deep into what is going on inside of your body.

We are not a one size fits all, cookie cutter program.

We are not telling you to:

  1. Cut out carbs or other food groups

  2. Fast or obsess about every little detail or what you’re eating

  3. Take 20 different supplements

  4. Stick to a protocol that doesn’t bring out the best in your body.

Instead, we help you:

  1. Uncover the real reasons for your insulin resistance, fatigue, and brain fog (not just related to food)

  2. Address those root causes so you can get unstuck and see progress in as little as 1-2 weeks

  3. Build habits and tools that actually stick, no matter what life throws at you, so you can keep your blood sugar, energy, and weight moving in the right direction for good.

If you are ready to balance blood sugar and restore your health for good, you can apply to work with our team here. From there if your application is accepted, we can set up a 1:1 conversation to see if we are the best team to help you with your blood sugar goals!

Now let’s get back to Leslie.

Leslie’s Starting Point: Severe Insulin Resistance, Fatigue, And Brain Fog

Leslie came to us with:

  1. Severe insulin resistance

  2. Constant fatigue

  3. Persistent brain fog

Given her strong family history of diabetes, she was worried about her blood sugar levels and how they might affect her vision among many other things.

She was ready to do anything in her power to prevent those complications. She just was not getting the help she needed from her doctors and endocrinologists to reduce insulin resistance in a way that felt sustainable.

She resonated with our root cause blood sugar approach because, as she put it, it wasn’t an outrageous method.

In her words, it was:

  1. Science backed

  2. Proven with real client results

  3. Not extreme like no carb diets or aggressive fasting

In other words, it was reasonable, sustainable nutrition and lifestyle change that actually addressed the root cause.

Inside The Pohlman Method, we helped her address her root causes in three main areas.

Step 1: Getting In Tune With Her Biofeedback To Improve Insulin Sensitivity

The first thing we worked on with Leslie was getting her in tune with her own biofeedback.

This is one of the biggest missing pieces we see in almost every client who is insulin resistant or stuck with blood sugar imbalances.

Most people come in:

  1. Constantly looking at outside information

  2. Trying to follow what worked for someone else

  3. Feeling pulled in ten different directions

Outside information can be helpful. The right information does matter. But what often matters even more is the information you are getting from your own body every single day.

That information is biofeedback.

Biofeedback includes signals like:

  1. Blood sugar trends

  2. Energy throughout the day

  3. Sleep quality

  4. Mood and anxiety

  5. Digestion

Those signals are your body’s way of telling you whether something is working or not.

With Leslie, we helped her:

  1. Notice those signals

  2. Make sense of them

  3. Use them to guide her nutrition and routine

Once we started making small, personalized adjustments based on her biofeedback, she began to see:

  1. More stable energy

  2. Clearer thinking

  3. Better sleep

And her blood sugars responded as a result because we were finally working with her body instead of fighting it.

Step 2: Lowering Her Cell Danger Response To Stabilize Blood Sugar

The second big piece we addressed was what we call the cell danger response.

Across the board, this is what keeps someone’s blood sugar high or rollercoastering all day long. When your cell danger response is high:

  1. Your metabolism is low

  2. Your body is more insulin resistant

  3. Your liver is more likely to kick extra glucose into the bloodstream

  4. Your cells are less likely to take up glucose from your bloodstream

So even if you are eating “perfect,” your blood sugar can stay stubbornly high. Clear signs that Leslie had a high cell danger response:

  1. Her blood sugar was rising while she slept

  2. She was spiking after meals, especially those with carbs

  3. Numbers would not budge even when she made good choices

We worked on her cell danger response through:

  1. Nutrition that actually nourished her instead of just looking “healthy”

  2. Sleep patterns that supported her circadian rhythm (hormones critical for reducing insulin resistance, regaining energy, reducing stress and anxiety, supporting a healthy appetite, and losing weight).

  3. Gentle movement that her body could recover from

  4. Lifestyle shifts that calmed her nervous system instead of revving it up

As that internal stress came down, she:

  1. Processed carbs more effectively

  2. Became more insulin sensitive

  3. Went longer stretches of the day stable and energized

This made it much easier for her to stay in range without constantly chasing numbers.

Step 3: Using The Pohlman Lab Bundle To Uncover Iron Overload And Mineral Imbalances

The third step in Leslie’s plan was using The Pohlman Lab Bundle.

The Pohlman Lab Bundle is a series of nutrient based labs that allows us to pinpoint your exact:

  1. Deficiencies

  2. Imbalances

  3. Toxicities

These play huge roles in:

  1. Energy

  2. Blood sugar balance

  3. Carb tolerance

  4. Metabolism

  5. Reducing long term risk of diabetes complications and vision issues

For Leslie, here’s what we found:

1. high iron levels

This came from:

  • Her cell danger response

  • The iron supplements she was taking for pernicious anemia

Iron is a needed nutrient. You do need it. But in her case, her iron stores were much higher than what her body could actually handle.

That excess iron was:

  • Increasing inflammation

  • Worsening insulin resistance

  • Contributing to her fatigue

Also, when iron is too high, it can get stored in key organs like the liver and pancreas. That:

  • Makes the liver more likely to push glucose into the blood

  • Makes the pancreas and cells less responsive to insulin

  • Keeps blood sugar higher even when you are trying to do everything right

By seeing this clearly on her labs, we could shift the focus away from “you just need more iron” and toward:

  • Helping her body use the iron she already had

  • Supporting the minerals that balance iron

  • Lowering inflammation that was driving insulin resistance

2. High Calcium

These results show both slow thyroid function and insulin dominance, where your body is really dependent on insulin in order to keep your blood sugar in a normal range.

Together, this was contributing to insulin resistance, fatigue, and brain fog.

3. Low Potassium

Low potassium makes you more susceptible to a slow metabolism, insulin resistance, sleep issues, and fatigue.

As we worked on these deeper mineral imbalances with food and targeted support, Leslie’s body:

  1. Burned less energy fighting internal stress

  2. Became more insulin sensitive

  3. Started to feel more energized and clear headed

Leslie’s Results: From Insulin Resistant And Foggy To Insulin Sensitive And Clear

As Leslie worked through these three areas inside The Pohlman Method, here is what changed. She:

✅ Saw much more balanced blood sugar and better insulin sensitivity while still eating carbs

✅ Felt more stable energy instead of the constant crashes

✅ Noticed clearer thinking and less brain fog

✅ Slept more restfully at night

✅ Felt confident in how to support her body long term instead of guessing

In her words, “the investment was worth every penny” and “the program was life changing”!

One of the biggest things we were proud of with Leslie is that we were able to guide her at a pace that worked for her life.

There were no huge, overwhelming overhauls.

We focused on the needle movers. Simple changes that:

  1. Fit her day

  2. Reduced insulin resistance

  3. Actually stuck

That is what allows results to last after the program is done.

Ready To Reduce Insulin Resistance And Get Your Energy Back Like Leslie Did

If you are dealing with insulin resistance, fatigue, and brain fog, and you are worried about where your blood sugar is headed, you are not alone.

Leslie is a great example of what can happen when you stop chasing quick fixes and start addressing the real root causes behind blood sugar imbalances.

If you are ready to:

  1. Reduce insulin resistance
